Changing User Passwords

If you haven't installed BackTrack yet, follow the Getting Started Series on how to do that.

After you have installed BackTrack, you know that your username is root and your password is toor.
"toor" is the default password that comes with BackTrack for root, and since everybody knows that, it is very important you change your password.

To do that, open Terminal by either clicking on the Terminal icon at the top bar or pressing

CTRL+ALT+T

Once Terminal has opened, type in the following:

passwd

You will be prompted to enter a new UNIX password. Type in the the new password you wish to set for the root username. Note: You will not see the password being typed.

Press enter and repeat your password. Press enter again and you are all set.
